Filling the abyss...one entry at a time

Welcome to my canyon...

Welcome to the place where I share. Word of warning to begin with, I consider myself an intelligent individual, but occasionally I collapse into a not so intelligent personna. Happy reading...

Broke. I mean really broke
01.19.05 (11:51 am)
Life is really sucking right now. I just looked at my bank account and it's all in the negatives. Not a big deal if I was working next week but I don't think that's going to be happening any time in the next week or so. I just got an email from Skytrain and they've put the project on hold for another week or two. Which means that they're not going to be needing me for at least that time. What this means for me is another 4 weeks without work. Not a huge deal if I had savings but I've used those up completely over the last 6 months. I don't think Dan realizes how bad things are. The truth is, I can barely afford to get to school nevermind anything else. I'm starting to really panic.

I called all three of the agencies I'm registered with to see if anything comes up. I sure hope something does because I'm hurting badly. I could freakin' cry right now this sucks so bad.

It'll get better right? It has to doesn't it? I mean, it can't reallly get much worse. I guess it could but it won't. Keep thinking positive they say. I don't know how much longer I can do that for.

CRAP!

Bad weather and Disturbing Flicks
01.12.05 (9:16 pm)
Well, the weather's been cold and snowie and it looks like everything's going to freeze tonight. Things are going ok so far. School (the few classes that I've had) have gone really well. Unfortunately, a rotating strike took out today's classes which really sucked but other than that, it's all going well.

I still didn't get a call from the temp agency yet so I've been spending most of the days doing nothing. Pathetic, I know, but I have kept busy with the PC and reading among some other things.

The other day, I was at my cousin's place and I borrowed some DVD's from him. Among one of them was Requiem for a Dream. I'd heard from various people that this was a little disturbing but I had no idea just how disturbing it was. Well, I watched it yesterday and now I know. I think this is a movie that everyone needs to watch, particularly teens. Yes, it's disturbing and yes, there's some really nasty stuff there but if you're not turned off of drugs by watching this, then I don't think anything else will do it for you. Really brilliant in a messed up sort of way.

I went to the bookcrossing meetup yesterday. We were supposed to have 19 peple but we only had 9 thanks to the snow fall. It was a great meeting with lots of new faces. I can't wait 'till next moth. Hopefully by then, the weather will have settled a bit and more people will be able to come to the meeting.

I'm going to check around and see if I can get a little pocket size digital camera. We have a big one but I want something cheap and small that I can keep in my bag all the time. I saw a small Polaroid one that I like but the still pics are only in bitmap format which isn't great. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

Time to do some more web updating! Maybe I'll post again later otherwise, it'll be tomorrow.

1st day of school
01.05.05 (10:37 pm)
It's like highschool all over again except I don't look like I did back then.

I had my first class tonight and oh my, what an experience. I was so nervous I had to keep myself busy all day to think about it. So, I ran my errands and Dan and I spent the day out and about. Nothing to be too worried about though. Class was fine. The prof seems great and the class really interesting. I was a little worried that I'd be the "old lady" of the bunch but that wasn't the case at all. It's a good breakdown of lots of different people and I had fun. She let us go a little early so I managed to get home just before 10.

Dan went out with Paul and Dave. I'm glad he's getting out and about, I sometimes think the reason he's sometimes depressed is because he doesn't interact with others enough. He's still out so he must be having a good time. I'm really, really GLAD.

Still no call fromt he temp agency. Not sure if I'm going to get a placement for next week. If I don't hear from them until Friday, I'll give them a call to snoop for info on how busy it looks. I hope they can get something for me. I really need the $$. If not, I think I'll have to look for some PT work...

It looks like the 70s are back. I'm watching some show called "Dance 360" which looks like a modern remake of "American Bandstand". Kind of cool I guess. I hate to admit it but I think Dan's right. He's always complaining that everything's been done and people just keep recycling old stuff. I hate to give in to him but I think he's right. Can no one come up with anything new anymore?

I actually 'bought' some music online tonight from Bonfire. It's a little cheaper than actually buying the CD and it was pretty successful. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the bloody songs were downloaded in .wma format which takes *forever* to load into my mp3 player. I ended up having to burn the bloody music onto CD's, extracting it and converting it to mp3 format. Bloody lisence doesn't let you conver the music directly so I had to do the run around. Pain in the ass but I think I'll have to try it again. When buying whole albums it's still a bit pricy for me (might as well buy the CD) but for only a song or two, it's not too bad at all.

Still can't get the bloody flash usb to work on Linux. Dan tried and it seemed to be working but the freakin' thing stopped working again. Crappy!

Oh yeah, I saw Roxy yesterday! She came by and we went out to the casino to lose some money. She told me the saga of Don (bloody bastard is all I have to say) and we had a nice lunch. It was great to see her again. I didn't realise how much I'd missed her until I saw her again. What a sweatie. She looks so happy! The wedding is going to be in Vegas sometime in the later part of the year. I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be fun.

It's getting late and Dan still isn't home. I think I'm going to call it a night and head off to bed witout him. Maybe I'll feel like reading. I've been ignoring my book for a few weeks. Time to get back into the habit of reading.

I'm out.

Who the f*ck?
01.03.05 (9:54 pm)
Who the hell would pay $10,000 for a bag? What is the world coming to?

Another lame day. Got up somewhere around noon, played on the PC 'till 5, made dinner, ate, showered, back on the PC 'till 11:30, now updating the blog and then off to bed. At least I have some errands for tomorrow. Go to the bookstore to buy schoolbooks. Meet Rox, make bank appointment to sign loan papers. YIKES. I hate debt. This is my first "real" loan. Oh well, could be worse.

I'll have to give the temp agency a call tomorrow. See how things look for January. I think I'm also going to apply at Coast Capital. Sharon (Dan's cousin) was telling me they're always looking for people and to boot, the office is just down the street from me.... I'm going to check it out. Can't hurt.

Time for bed. I think I'm going to squeeze in a couple of crib games. How geeky is that. Two of my fav games are old timer games: crib and bingo.

Nighty night!

Cryin' out loud!
01.02.05 (10:52 pm)
Jeez, it's the new year and I figure I'll start it off right by making my first entry to catch up here. Lots has happened since the last entry (what else is new!).

Wednesday is my first class. Yes, I'm finally getting back to school. I'm excited and nervous. Not sure what to expect, it's been a while since I've been back at school. Xmas and the holidays were really nice and it was great to have a bit of a break from the jobs. I was getting a little crazy from lack of sleep.

My cousin recently introduced me to "culture jamming" which I'm finding very interesting. Among other thigs, I've become really interested in the 'Adbusters' phenomenon. There's lots of cool stuff on there and I highly suggest you visit the site for more info: www.adbusters.org

Let's see...what else....Oh yes, I just switched over to Mandrake Linux from the dreaded WindowsXP and so far, I'm really liking it. Yeah, there are some glitches with configurating some of the stuff but for the most part, it's freakin' awesome! Highly recommended! I managed to get my MP3 player to work. The only things left for now are the palm, camera and USB storage device and I'll be all set!

Oi, I think it's time for bed. It's already 1am on Monday morning. I only had 4 resolutions for 2005 and one of them was to use this blog a little more often. We'll have to see how things go......
