Filling the abyss...one entry at a time

Welcome to my canyon...

Welcome to the place where I share. Word of warning to begin with, I consider myself an intelligent individual, but occasionally I collapse into a not so intelligent personna. Happy reading...

I've had enough
07.26.05 (11:23 am)

Love you all but this server is driving me bananas. I feel like a fool for having purchased a subscription. Good money gone down the drain. I just can't deal with the insane load up times and the server which is constantly down.

I'll keep posting until the new space is up and running and then I'm off! Not to worry. I won't be gone too far away and you'll ALWAYS be able to find me, if you really want to.

BTW, I hope everyone is having a great day. Other than this mess, it's going pretty good out here! :)

BBQ, Cars and Sun
07.25.05 (8:46 am)
These were my weekend. Dan and I had a nice gathering of people at our place for a BBQ that went really well. Lots of food, lots of drink and lots of talking. It was really, really great fun.

Sunday we went down to the New Westminster to the 6th Annual Show 'n Shine. It was great fun. We saw lots of great classic cars, hotrods and low riders, not to mention limos and more bikes than I've seen since the last biker ride through the city. It was AWESOME. I took some cool pictures of the bikes (yes, they're my favourites). It was super sunny too which gave me a good opportunity to tan. But I'm not just happy with a little tan...I put on the SPF 4, Dark Tanning Lotion. I don't usually do thi because I naturally tan as we're having a good time but because we don't have the Indy this year and Dan and I aren't heading out to the airshow (my two, typical tanning spots for the summer), I figured I needed a little help. If I say so myself, the tan looks really great. I'll have to post the pictures tonight. Some of them are really, really great.

It was actually a little weird too because I bumped into a bunch of people that I know. I didn't realize I knew that many car/bike afficionados but wow, it was cool. I'm surprised we didn't bump into Neil with either the car(s) or Bike. I miss seeing him and Leslie. They are really great people.

BC Marijuana Makes Headslines - Again
07.22.05 (7:20 am)
I haven't seen recent international news but at least in Canada and the US, the big news has been the discovery of "the most advanced" underground smuggling tunnel. Smuggling what you ask? Simple, some of the best bud in the world!

After seeing this on the news for 2 days, I'm amazed at the comments that keep coming up. "They could even smuggle people into the US." Please. You mean to tell me that it couldn't also work the other way? Who's to say that people wouldn't want to be smuggled into the Great White North? It shouldn't surprise me but it does. I can't help it.

Then there's the whole debate about BC's lax laws on Marijuana. It's a 7 billion dollar industry in BC. As far as I'm concerned, make it legal and tax the bloody thing. As the infamous rap trio Cypres Hill used to say, "No one ever died of smoking marijuana." True, I know I'm walking on shaky ground here but in all honesty, I don't think that the side effects of marijuana are any different that those of alcohol. Yet one is legal and the other is not.

I don't mean to start a war here but this infuriates me to no end. And no, I didn't vote for the Marijuana Party.

Attack of the Pencil
07.21.05 (7:51 am)

After reding Jerkface's story of sibling rivalry, I started to this about an incident with my sister that dates back to 1986. But first, a little history about me and Clauds. Though she's always been smaller than me, she's also ALWAYS been a scrapper. We'd get into fight and she'd beat me up, pull my hair, scratch at me blah blah blah, the things kids do to eachother. Biting was also part of her repetoir but the worst was (and actually still is) her ability to wait me out. If mom said do the dishes to Clauds and she didn't want to do them, she'd just sit there because she knew I'd cave in to avoid getting in trouble.

Over the years, we had lots of crazy stuff happen like the time that we were skipping rope with friends and I pushed her into ropes. She triped and fell on her arm, breaking it. I kept telling her it was just sprained so she walked around with it for a few days until the pain was too much. Dad took her to the doctor and the arm was broken. Yikes. I remember the yelling from that night.

But ok. Back to '86. I was 7 and Clauds 5. We were living in Caracas (yes, that Venezuela), and my mom was working upstairs (she was the caretaker for an apartment building and we lived on the ground floor). Mom knew that Clauds and I would try to eat as many sweets as possible while she was gone so before she left, she'd move all the chocolate to the top shelf in the kitchen, so I would boost Clauds up onto the counter and she'd reach for the chocolate. On this particular day, we were colouring and she refused to get up on the counter. I decided I'd try it. I moved a chair next to the cabinets and made my way up. All was good, I stuffed my face and was about to come back down (not bringing anything for Clauds 'cause she didn't help) when she started screaming that she wanted some too. I refused and so she started pulling on my shorts. I lost my footing, grabbed onto the fridge to avoid crashing to the floor but instead, one floot slipped off the counter and on the way down, I scratched my bellin on the corner of the countertop. I had a huge gash that hurt like hell and started to bleed almost immediately.

Calmly, Clauds went back to her colouring. I laid on the couch and cried and asked her to put on some bandaids to stop the bleeding (I was 7, give me a break ok?). She refused saying I'd done it to myself. After a few minutes of feeling sorry for myself, I got up and sat down next to her at the table also colouring and wimpering every so often. The smartmouth started trashing me saying how stupid I was, I'd fallen off the counter blah blah blah. I lost my cool and threatenend to stick her with my pencil crayon. The indigo one. When she didn't stop, I got angrier and at, this point, it all goes a bit blurry. I'm not sure if she started hitting me or vise versa but when all was said and done, I had taken my Berol "Midnight Blue" pencil crayon to her face. It had missed her eye by just a fraction. The pencil was 'stuck' near the top of her nose. Screaming, I went and found my mom upstairs. She came running down and when she saw Clauds, all she could say was "What did you guys do???". When she pulled it out, the bit of lead was left in there. Later that day at the doctors office, he told my mom it was better to just leave the bit in there and let the body push it out.

To this day, she still has the mark of that pencil crayon. Over the years it's been going deeper under the skin and the size of it is diminishing it but the coloration has left a bit of a blue spot on the side of her nose. She never told my mom what happened.

Crash and Burn
07.20.05 (11:09 am)
OK. So ask anyone who knows even a little about me and they'll telly ou that I love books. Always have, always will. Unfortunately, this doesn't always translate into my schoolwork. Take, for example, an inclass essay that I wrote yesterday. I don't mind essays. I'm finding that I'm a little rusty but the last one I wrote was much easier to get through than the first which suggests that yes, with practice, the skill will come back. However with all that being said, we had this inclass thingy do yesterday in regards to a book which we were supposed to have read. I guess it would have helped if I had read the book?!?! I just couldn't get into it. I tried, I really did. THREE TIMES! But every time I'd get only a few pages further than the first and it was just going no where.

So yesterday, I sat through the first hour and a half of lecture about the book, taking furious notes and trying to tie in what he was talking about with the 50 out of 250 pages I'd read, with little success. When he finally gave us the exam, I seriously contemplated putting my name on it, leaving it blank and handing it in. However, guilt got the better of me and I just started writing. BSing my way through what is, by far, the worst piece of trash ever. Bad. I mean REALLY BAD. However, I had to give it a shot. Anything is better than nothing right?

Prof. DW, if you ever happen to read this, I appologise for that drabble and having put you through that nightmare.

Ticket Scandal
07.18.05 (11:46 am)

I had an eventful Saturday morning. NIN is coming to town 2 days before my b-day *woohoo* and, of course, I'll be there with bells on but first, I have to get the tickets right? So I've been planni g the ticket getting for a few weeks now. I was going to get up early and refresh the page for 10 minutes up to 10AM. Well, it didn't quite work out that away. Thursday afternoon little sis said she'd be buying me tickets for my birthday. YEY! A little concerned about her occasional flakyness, I decided to set my alarm clock on Friday night, just to be sure. So Saturday morning rolls in and I wake up just after 10am. Dan had gone out drinking with the work buddies and had come home after I'd been asleep. He figured I'd forgotten and turned the alarm clock on by accident so, he turned it off.

At seeing the time, I jumped out of bed and went looking for Clauds (my little sis). She was still in bed. In a mad rush, I grabbed my Credit Card and the nearest computer and started the ticket buying. Slow. SUPER SLOW. The computer had been left on all night and was running like molases. I ended up having to reboot which took another 5 mins. In the end, I didn't buy tickets until 10:15 and by then, the floor tickets were all gone. I was and am a bit disappointed but I still managed to get some good seats. The only thing now is going to be trying to get upgrade to floor. I'm keeping my ears peeled because the radio shows sometimes have contests. Bugger.

I'm sooo excited! I can't believe it's only 2 months away! :)

PS. If you know anyone who happens to have an extra set of floor tix or knows where to get some, let me know! ;)

Expensive meals
07.18.05 (9:27 am)

I love a good meal but occasionally, we end up at places that I would generally avoid due to price. However, with the super duper hot weather that we had this weekend (which I think fried my brain a little), headed pout to meet the girls at Earls for dinner. After a nice salad (which was great except for the salty dressing) and a few drinks, we headed off to see Batman Begins (for the second time. Yes, I liked it so much I saw it twice). Over dinner, Greg, suggested that because us girls have such different tastes but go to movies together nearly every weekend, we should do our own reviews. He even suggested a name: MSL Reviews (the initials of all of our names). So, look out for it, the first MSL review will be posted either later today or tomorrow. Back to the dinner story.

After the movie, we made our way down to "Gotham" for dessert. WOW. What a nice place. You walk in and it's like you're in a different time. The building was built in the 1930s and they have kept the art decco theme going on the inside with the decor. A truly amazing place. It's considered one of the priciest places in town and this was apparent even in the dessert menu. I paid $8 bucks for a creme brule (and btw, my mom's is better) but for the atmosphere and the chance of saying that I've been to Gotham's, it was totally worth it. The only downside: they don't take debit. Only cash and credit. Steph ended up paying for me because I tend to leave my credit card at home when I go out (it's too easy to overspend). First time I've ever been to a restaurant that considers itself too good for debit. I can tell you it'll be a long time before I go there again.

Other than that, the weekend was pretty melow. I slept on and off for most of the day yesterday (I blame it on the heat) and then in the afternoon, Dan my mom and I headed out to do a final cleanup on the presentation suite that we (as in the company I'm working for) is building. I have to tell you that I was expecting much more. Dan and I have seen our share of show suites and this one was one of the least wowing I've ever seen. I don't have the heart to tell the boss lady but she should have hired a decorator to set the place up. Oh well, I know I can't afford one of the suites. Much too expensive for me!

Yes, I'm alive - Kinda'
07.14.05 (3:08 am)
Well, after over a week of no entries, I figured it was about time. Sorry about that everyone. Still no internet at work and by the time I get home I'm so beat I can't bear to even turn the computer on.

If all goes well, I should have things up and running at work this morning and will be back to normal operating procedures before the end of the week.

It's now sometime after 6AM. I've officially pulled my first all nighter of the year. I showed up to school last night only to find out that I had a paper due. I seriously thougth it was due next week and that I'd have the weekend to work on it but no such luck. Instead, I skipped class, came home and crammed it all in. Finally got the thing finished sometime after 5AM. So it took me from 7PM to 5AM. How many hours is that? Oh forget it, I can't do math at the moment. I do have to send out kudos to sis who was a total trooper and read my paper over when she got home from work at 3:15. When she's on it, she's really good.

As for tonight, I'm bailing on Psychology class. I've email everyone in the group a copy of what's due and I think they can figure out how to hand it in. I really need the time to recoop and regenerate after tonight. So I'll be coming home after work later and crashing. WOOHOO.

I must have been really tired from the past few weeks because I had a paper due on Tuesday too that I missed. I'm going to have to do that this weekend and hand it in next week. I guess I better email David (the prof) first. YIKES!

OK. I think I'm going to browse around and do some reading. I may even get in a quick 1hr nap! :)

Until soon!

A day of rain and more rain
07.05.05 (9:08 pm)
Vancouver has been struck by more rain. They had said it was going to be a late summer but I think that we'll be lucky to see a few more weeks of sunshine this year. And some ignore global warning as the cause for the sudden weather changes. How else are we to explain the scorching heat wave hitting China right now?

I nearly fell asleep at school today. This English class is only getting worse as the semester comes to a close. I won't bore you with the details of work but suffice to say that we still have no telephone line, fax line or internet connection. Argh.

Getting pretty late here. Off to bed I go. night night everyone

We're Moved! :)
07.04.05 (7:03 pm)
So since my last post, we've moved. I worked my ass off on the stat holiday (Happy beladed Canada day and Independence day for those of you in the USA!) but this morning I finally got to see the new temporary digs. Not bad. Over 7000 sq. ft. of office space for 5 people. Needless to say, we're only using half the floor.

Though the new place is nice, there are two major problems. The first is that I'm already thinking of the nightmare that moving back in October is going to be and the second thing is that the phone company failed to move the internet/fax line this morning. To boot, they're skirting around the fact that they fucked up so collossally (not sure if that's even a word but you get the picture) that they totally lost our appointment. I'll have to keep you all posted on the outcome. As it stands now, no one over there can say exactly what happened except that the line move has been re-scheduled for the 13th. How the heck do they expect a company who LIVES off of the fax lines to function without it. Today was a bit of a weird day because everyone was still getting settled in but I can see this is going to be a huge problem. I've passed it on to the Big Guy. I can't be worrying about this stuff. Too much else going on.

Now I'm going to attempt to catch up with everyone elses entries. Hopefully, we'll get things up and running over the next day or so otherwise, it will be a few more days before my next entry. Bugger.
