I had a good laugh when I saw this picture on my local news website.
The story is that with the soaring gas prices, gas stations are getting creative with their three diget signage. You can get the full story here.

After having paid $2.55/galan for the cheap gas, I think there's a lot of truth to this one!

Oh, to pay $2.33 again! The cheap gas here, right now, is $2.56! And I do a lot of driving for work, esp the next 2 months. Suckass.

Gosh, I can't even begin to imagine a world in which $2.55 for a GALLON of petrol is considered *expensive*. No wonder those Americans are all so wedded to their cars. America is such a weird place. I do like that picture though. Most amusing. Some clever pump attendant with a healthy sense of humour, obviously.

I know. I know. I can't tell you how happy I am to NOT have a car.
At the very least you'd think the small, fuel economic cars would be popular but no, please, make larger, more gas guzzling, monsters to put on the road and make them cheap enough that it's the only thing anyone can afford.
Do people not realize that we're going to run out of oil at some point and then we're all going to be screwed? Like it or not???? ARGH!

Oooh, it sounds like you need to come and join me in the 'concerned about peak oil' corner.

I know...I know. I don't really mean to get so "over the top" about it but it infuriates me to no end.
And then to see it so blatantly displayed! Bloody employee discounts on GM's or whatever and then the "bigger better" Cherokee...when is enough enough?
I just don't get it...I really don't. Why do we need SUV's to drive around the city? What's wrong with a smart car or a mini or a Mazada3? AHHHH
I'm going to stop now. I could go on forever.

No please, be my guest. Go right ahead. The world needs a few more people to talk about it, rant about it, yell about it, so that a few more people can get the urgency of actually doing something about it through their thick skulls.
Like you, I love not having a car. I recognise that there are places where you just can't get by without a car, but even then, how easily could we all cut back on how much we drive by walking a bit more, getting on our bikes, giving friends a lift etc etc etc?
By all means keep talking about it. Someone's got to!
By the way, I worked out how much $2.55/gallon actually is for petrol, and discovered that in the US they pay *less than half* of what we pay here in Germany for petrol. Quite something eh?
